Rotary South Asia Office History
In view of the growth potential of this region and the escalating needs of the Rotarians, Rotary International South Asia Branch Office was set up in Delhi on 01 October 1984. Besides decentralization, the purpose of the branch office was to provide quicker, efficient and personalized service to clubs and Rotarians of 27 districts spread over in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka in a cost effective manner. The office was initially located on the outskirts of Delhi at Dr. Mukherjee Nagar. The main functions of the Branch Office initially were to admit new clubs, answer queries on policy matters, provide guidance & training to club & district leaders, attend various district functions, etc. All fiscal functions were being handled by the Fiscal Agents in respective countries with those of India & Nepal being handled from Bombay (now Mumbai).
However, effective 01 July 1986, all fiscal functions pertaining to India and Nepal were entrusted to the Branch Office which was divided into two sections, namely; Service Section (responsible for service to Rotarians, including administration & publications) and Finance Section, (responsible for all financial matters including TRF).
The branch office was renamed as Rotary International South Asia Service Center effective 01 July 1995. On 09 December 1996, the office was shifted to Sucheta Bhawan at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg, New Delhi.
